Greater Kansas City Spinal Cord Injury Association (GKCSCIA)

Our Mission

The mission of the Greater Kansas City Spinal Cord Injury Association is to provide local resources, services and peer support to individuals with spinal cord injury/disease, their families and professionals. The chapter will assist individuals with the unique difficulties encountered when residing in a bi-state city when searching for information, education and assistance. The chapter will offer the same support to individuals residing in the area but outside the city.

About Us:

The Greater Kansas City Spinal Cord Injury Association (GKCSCIA) is a united effort of passionate individuals committed to creating services and programs to ensure high quality lives after spinal cord injury or disease (SCI/D).  GKCSCIA is a non-profit 501©3 organization, run entirely by volunteers. We are a chapter of United Spinal Association.

GKCSCIA supports many adaptive sports in the KC area. We are the primary sponsor for the Mid-West Ability Summit.

Friday, June 3rd at Crown Lake outside of Lawrence, Kansas (and on Saturday, August 13 at Pomona Lake in Vassar, Kansas)

FREE - but you must register!

The Pomona Lake Ski Club is excited to offer adaptive water-skiing opportunities to individuals with spinal cord injury, amputations and other conditions that impact mobility and would otherwise prevent them from participating in this wonderful summer sport.

In 2022 we will be offering two clinics to be held on Friday, June 3rd at Crown Lake outside of Lawrence, Kansas, and on Saturday, August 13 at Pomona Lake in Vassar, Kansas, both near the Kansas City metropolitan area and Topeka, KS. These clinics are free to all participants.

In order to provide an extended time on the lake skiing, at each adaptive clinic participants should choose a morning (9AM-Noon) or afternoon (1:00-4:00 PM) session to ski. Morning participants should plan on staying after their session and afternoon session participants should plan on arriving early as lunch will be provided from noon to 1:00PM. Adaptive participants are also welcome to be at the lake all day and enjoy other activities. Additional ski time can be accommodated if time permits.

SEE LINK BELOW to register for one, or both of the adaptive water ski clinics hosted by the Pomona Lake Ski Club. Prior to completing the registration form, please review the participant requirements located on the Pomona Lake Ski Club website. (link below)
